What Happens & When?

France is starting to open up again after the latest if not the strictest lockdown. So what does that mean to anyone wanting to holiday in France, especially if you live in the UK?

Here is the schedule and the proposed dates for when significant changes are going to be made:

From the 3rd May 2021

  • Schools and colleges are reopening to include older children
  • You will no longer need an ‘attestation’ to travel more than 10km
  • You can move freely between different regions and departments

The curfew from 7.00p.m. to 6.00a.m.will still be in place however and working from home wherever possible will continue.

From the 19th May 2021

  • Non-essential shops can re-open
  • Outside terraces for bars and restaurants can open with 6 people to a table maximum
  • Museums, monuments, cinemas, theatres can re-open following Covid guidelines
  • Performance venues for up to 1000 people outside can re-open
  • Sport stadiums with covers for spectators can re-open with max 800 people inside and 1000 people outside
  • Resumption of sports with covered or open air facilities following Covid guidelines
  • Curfew time will be changed to 9.00p.m. to 6.00a.m.

Private gatherings of more than 10 people will still be prohibited.

From the 9th June 2021

  •  Easing of working from home restrictions
  • Cafes and restaurants will re-open for eating inside (6 people maximum)
  • Cultural & sporting facilities can welcome up to 5000 people maximum
  • Sports halls can re-open, contact sports outside can resume as can non-contact sports inside
  • Exhibitions and fairs for up to 5000 people can resume
  • Tourists from outside of France can come into France providing they have a Covid passport of some kind (yet to be defined)
  • Curfew time will be changed to 11.00p.m. to 6.00a.m.

From the 30th June 2021

  • Curfew will be lifted
  • Establishments that receive the public will no longer be limited to specific numbers
  • Inside and outside events for more than 1000 people will be authorised as long as attendees have a Covid pass. (Yet to be defined)
  • The maximum limit of people allowed to attend an event will depend on the local health situation

Discos will remain closed.

Don’t forget, this could all change. If Covid takes off again there is a good chance restrictions could be reintroduced and some of these plans could be completely reversed.

But on a more positive note, the vaccination program is being intensified and more and more people in France have or are about to receive their first or second doses. The intention is that all adults will have been offered a vaccination by the end of summer.
